In this issue:
1. City Issues
2. Mel musings
3. Community Notes & Websites
3. Events
4. Readers write
5. Last Word ("Where's Derwyn")

1. CITY ISSUES
We are continuing on this issue. As we stated in our last newsletter, we encourage others to contact us if you're interested in participating in any way. Our meeting with Councillor Miller was rescheduled to this coming week. We will also be meeting with our MP, Sarmite Bulte to discuss federal involvement.

We have begun updating our City pages on the website. We have re-written a page of background information (still incomplete at this writing), and 2 pages of links (one general, one recent news articles). All of this will be expanded and updated soon. See: www.city.world19.com

2. MEL MUSINGS
And, what other City issue gets more attention than the mayor? Just a week ago, we thought we had a good suggestion for His Worship. Instead of sending out a flock of fibreglass unicorns next year to succeed last year's moose, what about "Mel-kids"? Youngish, balding fibreglass males would be a much better symbol of Toronto. Alas, Mel may have killed the market for Mel momentos with his latest escapade. Some mayoralty notes can also be found at : www.city.world19.com

3. COMMUNITY NOTES
BWV sidewalk sale:
If you're strolling Bloor, on Saturday, look for & pick up our "mini-flyer" at the Town Hall booth at Windermere & Bloor.

Local websites (we're not the only ones...)

a) swansea.ca
This site is not yet in place. It will be concentrating specifically on Swansea events. A prototype is up at www.csandw.on.ca/swansea.php.

b) www.bloorwestvillage.com
A website that hasn't generated much publicity that I know of. It is largely advertising-oriented, and has been created by a company which has created similar websites for other Toronto neighbourhoods. Readers in South Swansea may find the following item from one of their pages interesting: "Lastly, we have decided that the most popular hangout place is The Meow Night Club, which is located at Lakeshore Blvd and Ellis Avenue. It is a new addition to Bloor West Village and people can be seen arriving from all over Toronto getting set to take in the party atmosphere"

c) Swansea Town Hall
News & information & current month events are available at www.web.net/~swansea

4. EVENTS

a) From the Bloor West Eco-Village:
A Garage Sale for Home Gardens
Sat. June 23, 10am to 4pm
52 Mulgrove Drive (Burnhamthorpe/427).
"The City of Toronto is threatening to destroy an important part of an environmentally significant meditation garden created by Toronto gardener Douglas Counter in memory of his late mother.:

For more details visit www.bwev.world19.com

b) "Joseph King of Dreams"
Runnymede Baptist Church
60 Colbeck at Runnymede
Sat. June 23, 7pm

This Saturday night, June 23rd at 7pm, from the people that brought you "Shrek" and "Prince of Egypt" ... Dreamworks' "Joseph, King of Dreams" will be up on the BIG(ish) SCREEN in the parkinglot of Runnymede Baptist Church (60 Colbeck, one block north of Bloor, just west of Runnymede)

You bring the lawn chairs, we'll provide the popcorn and the movie for free!

See www.runnymedechurch.org

5. READERS WRITE  From our mailbag:

a) Boycott Loblaws
One reader is incensed at Loblaws' refusal to allow labelling of GMO-free (genetically modified) foods. See www.loblaws.world19.com

b) Feedback
We have various readers' comments posted on our "feedback" pages. We received some lengthy comments from one reader recently at http://webhome.idirect.com/~jleeson/comments2.htm

6. LAST WORD
Finally, for those who wondered "What ever happened to...".

Since world19 began life (as WORLD) leading opposition to the Megacity in this area, we were glad that a reader phoned us to alert us to a news story featuring our previous MPP, Derwyn Shea.

From the Toronto Star, June 18
