Public Forum on Elections in Toronto:

Here's information about 3 upcoming forums at the St. Lawrence Centre. In anticipation of an impending Federal election we've invited Cabinet Minister David Collenette to the FORUM next Wednesday. For those of you not familiar with the FORUM program it has been a well-received part of the civic scene for 30 years funded by the City of Toronto. The FORUM provides a public space for residents to speak out on issues of civic and social importance. It is a valuable partner to hundreds of community, professional and national organizations that bring their issues to the Forum. Please forward this info. to friends, family and colleagues.

Election Fever:
Taking the Temperature of the GTA
Wednesday October 25, 2000, 7:30-9:30 pm

Toronto - With a federal and municipal election in the offing, election fever is hitting the big city. Join David Collenette, Mel Lastman and Nancy Diamond as they discuss the future of the GTA at the St. Lawrence Centre Forum. A panel of experts will put questions to the politicians, which will be followed by questions from the audience. Please note this discussion will be held only in the event of a federal election call.

The Issues:
a.. Waterfront development: the Olympics, the proposed shipping docks, the Fung report and funding
b.. Housing and homelessness
c.. The structure of government: amalgamation, downloading, and the Greater Toronto Services Board
d.. Environment: transit and traffic, garbage, and urban sprawl.

Rob MacIsaac: Mayor, City of Burlington; Chair, Best Practices Sub-Committee, Greater Toronto Services Board.

Walks on the Water
A series of walks and discussions have been taking place at various sites on Toronto's waterfront. They are sponsored by the City's Economic Development, Culture & Touism Department and the Waterfront Regeneration Trust.

On Sunday October 29, from 1-3pm, "Victorian Gems on the Western Waterfront". With David Crombie, the wak explores "the ongoing restoration of Toronto's best-preserved example of a large complex Victorian landscape -- the former Lakeshore Psychiatric Hospital. Also walk the streets of Long Branch, 'Toronto's favourite summer resort' and see the cottages that were built in the mid-1880's."

Meet at the Waterfront Trail gazebo, south end of Samuel Smith Park, Lakeshore Blvd & Kipling Avenue.

In our last issue, we mentioned the OMB appeal of the condo development. Somehow, our typesetting department messed up and dropped one number from the date. The hearing starts December 11.
