1. WORLD19 ALL-CANDIDATES MEETING - Mon. June 21
A reminder:
Monday, June 21, 7:00pm
Runnymede United Church 432 Runnymede Rd (2 blocks north of Bloor)
Doors will open at 6:45
The meeting will have a special emphasis on urban issues, but
will be open to all issues surrounding the election. We expect the meeting to be
significant. Not only is the national election dramatically close, but Parkdale-High Park
appears to be shaping up to be a pivotal race. News stories have been focusing on a tight
race between Liberal MP Sarmite Bulte and first-time NDP challenger Peggy Nash. As well,
in the 2000 election, the combined PC/Alliance votes were also very strong. Finally, like
many other ridings, the Green Party's support seems to have jumped signficantly since the
last election.
On our election page, we have posted: - our meeting flyer
(WORD format) ... please feel free to print and distribute or post anywhere you think
appropriate - news stories relevant to PHP - political links note: - some of this
information will be updated later this evening. If you don't see our poster, check back
later!
2. REON / STELCO SITE OPEN HOUSE - Tuesday June 15
This is a late notice of a public meeting June 15 regarding the Windermere by the
Lake development (on the old Stelco site). Since the original approval, there have been a
number of changes to the design and height of towers. Applications for variance and height
changes were won at the OMB. However, residents in the immediate area still have a number
of issues.
a) First, the notice from the developer:
OPEN HOUSE - NOTICE OF PUBLIC MEETING
Windermere by the Lake Is pleased to invite you to an open
house on Tuesday, June 15, 2004, from 5:30 pm to 9:00 pm in the Rousseau Room, of the

This open house is being conducted to allow you to obtain
complete information with respect to the proposed townhouse development to be constructed
on the site located at 6 Windermere. Renderings and other pertinent data will be
presented, as well, our architects and owner's representatives will be available to
respond to any questions or concerns which you may have.
Should you not be able to attend, but would like to receive
our information package, just call, fax or email us and we will see that you receive the

b) Second, comments from one of our subscribers:
For anyone going to the open house here are some questions you might want to ask.
While having larger townhouses is a good idea, the developer
doesn't seem to want anyone to know their plans for the two high-rises. The comments I
have included are based on a set of drawings that were provided to the Committee of
Adjustment - the committee refused to approve the plans and told them to consult with the
community. They may have changed since.
1. how is this plan different than what was originally
approved? (the townhouses are bigger and take up more room on the site)
2. Have the buildings envelopes been changed? (the area
occupied by each set of townhouses is now larger and encroaches on the space of the
towers)
3. Wasn't there supposed to be two entrances to the site? (it
appears from the plan I saw that all traffic will go in and out on Windermere as well as a
lot of the traffic for the part of the site known as 3 Windermere)
4.How does this affect the original plans for the towers?
(the space for the towers is now smaller and one of the towers will need to be
repositioned - this will have an effect on sight lines)
5. Why aren't you showing everything that's planned for the
entire site - surely you know by now? (since the building envelopes are encroached on and
given time lines they have to already decided on what the towers will be like)
6. How can anyone have an opinion on this proposal without
knowing the entire picture?
7. Where is the route to the Humber Trail? (this was a
condition of approval to have a tie in to the trail)
8. Does this mean there is less green space? (according to
what when to the Committee of Adjustment - Block A's green space will be reduced from 30%
to 17% and Block B's from 24% to 20%)
I'd like your feedback on the proposal. Thanks
3. SUMMER SOLSTICE WALK IN HIGH PARK LABYRINTH - June
20
from another of our subscribers who has been leading these walks in the High Park
labryinth:
Hi Everyone,
As some of you know, Sylvia and I have sold our house here in
Toronto and will be moving to Saltspring Island in BC in September. This will therefore be
the last time that Sylvia will be leading the Solstice labyrinth walk in the park.
Our suggestion, for next Sunday, is that we gather at the
Grenadier Restaurant at around 7:00 p.m., if you would like to have a meal together, or a
cup of tea, or alternatively, meet at the labyrinth at around 8:15 so that we can put out
the luminaries. The actual solstice takes place at 8:57 PM.
At around the end of June, or in early July, we would like to
gather with others to repaint the labyrinth. If those of you who are interested in helping
with that could please let us know, it would be much appreciated.
There are other tasks that will need to be taken on,
following our departure, and they are the liason with the High Park Citizens
Advisory committee; general care and maintenance of the labyrinth site; and someone to
lead and coordinate the walks. If anyone is interested in any of these tasks, and it can
be several people who do it, that would be wonderful.
Looking forward to seeing many of you on Sunday.
Blessings, Roger and Sylvia
