1. UPDATES FROM LAST NEWSLETTER (#140)
a) Fred Victor Centre
The site plan for the Lakeshore/Windermere Fred Victor Centre passed at the Feb. 17
Toronto West Community Council. The only dissenting votes were from Councillors Ford and
Holyday. It now goes to City Council.
Note also, links to background documents posted on our
website were not working; they have since been corrected.
b) Humber Theatre
This item, concerning the propsed 13-story retail/ health club/ apartment
development has been deferred to the April Community Council. We expect there will be a
public meeting on the propsal before long.
2. BWV ART TOUR - want to help?
The following note was sent to world19 this week [the original was designed much
more attractively; the art work didn't survive the transfer to our newsletter]
Can you spare a little time and energy? Want
to help support the arts in your community?
Want to meet some neat people & have a bit
of fun?
Come out to a get acquainted party at Billy
Bobs 2448 Bloor St. West
Wednesday February 25, 2004 from 7:00
9:00 pm
3. ASSESSMENTS
First, for anyone who has visited the assessment page on our
website, we have corrected a link to the document explaining how to file an appeal.
Second, our correspondent who has sent us so much information
on MPAC and assessment, Bruce Haines, has now sent a highly detailed document designed to
help people considering filing an appeal and representing themselves at the Assessment
Review Board.

4. WARD 14, ETOBICOKE & TORONTO
Ward 14, the eastern half of Parkdale-High Park may be
returning to the former City of Toronto. When City Council created the current four
Community Council model, Wards 13 & 14 were included with Etobicoke in the
"Toronto West Community Council". At the upcoming Policy & Finance Committee
meeting, a proposal will be discussed to move Ward 14 to the downtown (Toronto South)
Community Council. To re-balance the Councils, Ward 17 (Betty Disero's former ward) would
move to Toronto West.
That leaves Ward 13, also a part of the former City of
Toronto, and still much more similar to the old city still a part of a council that
otherwise is suburban oriented. Does anyone know of another ward that would like to trade?
