Note:
Our newsletter and website have both been on something of a break recently; we
may get back to some more frequent updates later this spring, but in the meantime, here
are 3 upcoming events that may be of interest:
1. MAYORALTY DEBATE - Tuesday April 22
The Roncesvalles- Macdonell Residents' Association presents a special Meet the
Candidates for Mayor Evening
Confirmed participants:
Barbara Hall
Tom Jabobek
David Miller
John Nunziata
Tuesday, April 22, 2003, 7:30, at Fern Avenue Public School,
128 Fern Avenue.
(just east of Roncesvalles, 2 blocks south of High Park Blvd)
Issues to be debated:
- The Toronto Environment
- Toronto Island Airport Expansion and Lakeshore Development
- Homelessness and Affordable Housing
- TTC and Public Transit Funding
- Vision and Leadership for Toronto
PLUS Your questions from the floor are welcome!
2. The FAN/BILLY BOB'S ROOFTOP PATIO HEARING DATES:
Apr. 22 & 23
The Fan/Billy Bobs (Bloor, west of Jane) is again applying for a 60 person
licensed rooftop patio. The locale is now larger than most bars/restaurants in the area
(and louder than most). The rooftop would be close to many residences just north of Bloor.
The following notes are extracted from a flyer distributed in the Bloor / Jane
neighbourhood:
Again we must prove to the Alcohol & Gaming
Commission that the granting of a liquor license for the rooftop patio is against the
wishes and needs of the community
Again, this is our last chance to oppose this
application
Again, we are asking that you support us by attending this upcoming
hearing
.
Please do not underestimate the importance of your
attendance
The community has a good chance of winning again, but our case will be
weakened if only a few of us show up at the hearing. [The flyer quotes from the 2000
decision by the Commission to reject that application]: the objectors were
supported by the attendance of a large number of residents who remained until late evening
of the first day and all through the second evening as well.
If you
cant be there for both evenings, be there for one
.
