1. JAMIE BELL
Give blood for Jamie
Saturday, Oct 26, 10am - 2pm
Swansea Town Hall Call 1-888-TO-DONATE to make an appointment
At Jamie's memorial service last month, someone spoke about
how Jamie believed in doing things that really made a difference. That was one reason he
believed strongly in donating blood. One unit of blood can help save many people. The next
blood donor clinic at the Swansea town hall will be held Oct. 26. Last October's blood
clinic collected 64 units. A speaker at the service pledged that this October's clinic
would double that. Those who remember Jamie are urged to come out on Saturday, to give and
to help. Canadian Blood Services encourage donors to make an appointment: 1-888-TO-DONATE.
If you can't make it to Swansea on Saturday, make an appointment elsewhere or
"elsewhen", and make sure they know you're donating for Jamie.
Also, go to our website (http://webhome.idirect.com/~jleeson/jamie_bell.htm)
for more information about Jamie, including:
- notes on his memorial service
- the webpage started by his family for Jamie. They solicit comments, memories and
anecdotes about Jamie.
- details of the trust fund set up for Jamie's sons.
- "How to build community": it could have been written by Jamie.

We have minutes of the most recent liasion committee meeting posted on our website
at www.stelco.world19.com. An appeal had been
filed recently to the OMB against the recent Committe of Adjustment decision which had
approved a number of variances regarding the site, including some density increases,
reduced parking and elimination of commercial space. See our website for more details.
b) Southport
Also, we have an updated report on the meetings of the Southport plaza working
group. The latest report is from the Oct. 7 meeting; we should have notes of the Oct. 21

4. BLOOR STREET
In a newseltter in early September, we noted the imminent departure of the tenants
who moved into the old Cheese Boutique location, and wondered if the neighbouring book
store would leave soon, since both properties are owned by the same landlord. So, now
there are (conveniently) 3 neighbouring empty storefronts. But empty for how long? And who
will be moving in?
Last weekend, I heard a familiar story -- this time from
friends who live just west of the Village. Since the Cheese Boutique (and IGA) left the
Village, they almost never visit/shop here.
5. EDUCATION FORUM
We are still planning to work with others in the area on a forum on education.
