This page contains an index to the minutes of all community meetings
(most recent are from November 18) that have been held since September, 2000. world19 has
participated in these discussions with the developer, City and other residents. We welcome
all comments, questions and suggestions.
NEW: Toronto Star article (March 1/03) "Digging for gold in a
brownfield" talks about the reclamation of the many former industrial sites across
Toronto ("the equivalent of more than four High Parks") for housing and other
purposes, and cites the economic benefits, and also the many issues surrounding the
cleanup of contamination left by the former industrial occupants. The article quotes Bob
Willes, CEO of REON on brownfiled remediation.
Air quality report:
There were a number of complaints from area residents about dust and odours, and as
well as concerns about potential health impact from the construction work. Toronto Public
Health & the Ontario Ministry of the Environment reviewed, and requested improved
procedures for limiting impact. As well at their request, REON did a study of
potential health impact.
Information on this is available here:
- In the Nov. 8 project update,
distributed in the neighbourhood (PDF file)
- letter by REON to the Ministry summarizing
the issues, the health study & actions taken (WORD - 100K)
- the full health impact study done by Cantox
Environmental Inc. (one of REON's shareholders) WORD 172K
