Earth
Hour in the Village
(modified, Apr. 16/08)
world19 was proud to help organize this Earth Hour event in
Bloor West Village See our Mar.
21/09 newsletter for updates on 2009 events
March 29th
at 8pm was Earth
Hour everywhere around the world and it
was a definite success here in Bloor
West Village with an estimated 500
participants powering down and joining
in a candlelight walk along Bloor St.
with friends, family and pets in tow.
If you check our photo
gallery, you can see
thatit was quite a sight and an inspiring
event to be part of.
We were pleased to
see our MP Peggy Nash, our MPP Cheri
DiNovo and Councillor Bill Saundercook, along with the chairs
of the Swansea Ratepayers and Bloor West
Village Residents Associationsall taking part,.
In
a lead up to the event, we had visited
business owners in the Village and many
responded to the spirit of the Hour by
turning their lights down, or off. On
our walk, we definitely spotted most
restaurants in the area serving dinner
and drinks by more candlelight than
usual! And BIA Chair Paula McInerney,
owner of McLellan’s Jewellers, along
with former BIA Chair Alex Ling (owner
of Ling’s Importers), handed out
reusable BWV shopping bags to Earth Hour
walk participants.
Through our collective efforts we
demonstrated our commitment to the fight
against climate change now and for the
future.
Following the walk, there was some
discussion regarding possible follow-up
initiatives that we might pursue in
Ward13. As a result, several of us are
planning to meet on May 4th
to discuss the possibilities. If you
would like to join us then, or just stay
connected, contact Christopher Holcroft

Thanks again for helping make Earth Hour
in our community a great event –
together, we did make a difference!
Our photos of the
event are posted here, and
here's
a great photo taken by one of the walkers (Jun Nogami) of one
of his daughters.
